Wooden Locomotive
Yonkers, New York 1997
Minox IIIS - Agfapan APX 100 Professional developed in D-76 1:1.
A 4x5 print on Luminos paper made with a late-nineteen-fifties
Omega D-3 enlarger.
This full-size mockup was part of an exhibit about railroads in
Westchester at the Hudson River Museum.
It was there to give visitors a sense of just how big an engine
of this type is, and so the kids could climb
into the cab and pretend they're engineers and ring the bell. I
shot this kneeling down at 1/5 second, hoping
I could hold it steady in that position, and amazingly, it
worked. This picture illustrates the superior contrast
resulting from developing Agfapan in D-76 rather than Microdol-X,
although the grain is just a bit more visible.
